IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE STEVENS’ AMENDMENT, CENTRALIA CITY SCHOOLS SUBMITS THE FOLLOWING DISCLOSURE FOR THE 2007-2008 SCHOOL YEAR GRANT CYCLE.

NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND FEDERAL GRANTS: I, IIA, IV, AND V.

 

Centralia City Schools District # 135 has been approved by the Illinois State Board of Education for the following grant money:  Title I -$563,198.00: Title II A-$147, 482.00; Title IV $10,677.00, and Title V-$3,038.00.

 

Title I:  Money received from Title I will be used for continuing services of 4.5 full time equivalent reading teachers in the five Title I schools which include: Field Kindergarten Center, Schiller School, Jordan School, Irving School, and Lincoln School. Pro-rated salaries of the Title I Director, Title I Secretary, Technology Coordinator, Fiscal Agent, Purchasing Agent, and School Nurse are also paid from Title I to service the Title I buildings respectively.  A Title I Aide at Schiller and partial payment for a Title I Aide at Field Kindergarten Center are also obligated.

 

Title I expenditures also incorporate professional development to raise reading and math scores, extensive training for trainers and teachers in Ruby Payne’s Frameworks of Poverty, attendance at the No Child Left Behind Conference, and other staff development pertinent to fulfilling the goals set forth in the Title I grant.  Supplies for the improvement of instruction and classroom supplies are also purchased from Title I funds.  These include leveled readers, Developmental Reading Assessment materials, Record-it Audio books, etc.   Purchased supplies for instruction include software licenses in ABC Study Island, United Streaming, and Tumble Books –instructional technology to enhance the instructional process.  A portion of the grant is set aside for parental involvement which includes materials to afford parents direction in assisting their children in school, homework help materials, and parent nights for assisting students with academic endeavors.  Several additional smart boards will be purchased for the Title I schools in FY 08. Finally, each of the three parochial schools, St. Mary’s Catholic School, Trinity Lutheran School, and New Horizons Christian School also receive money appropriated through grant formulas based on their enrollment of district students.

 

Title II A—Money from Title II A will be used to continue financing 2.5 class size reduction teachers at Field Kindergarten Center, professional development for all schools in the district to include Ruby Payne Training at Centralia Jr. High School, administration of the grant, and funds allocated for professional development at the three parochial schools.

 

Title IV-Safe and Drug Free School Grant—Money from this grant is paid entirely to the Centralia Community Resource Center for violence and substance abuse prevention

activities and counseling services.  The three local parochial schools contribute their funds to receive similar services from CRC.

 

Title V Innovative Programs Grant—Money is used to pay a small portion of the gifted teacher’s salary.  Funds are available to the parochial schools for instructional materials.

 

Grants are public records and available at the Administration Building for viewing.  According to compliance with the Stevens’ Amendment the above information has been released to the press and posted on the district website at www.ccs135.com/curriculum/Stevens.doc08_1.html .

In accordance with 20 USC 6391(i)(1)(2)(A)(B) which states:

"documentation of the number or percentage of teachers and paraprofessionals at Title I schools who meed NCLB requirements is available to any member of the general public upon request,"

all Title I schools have attested to being staffed by only highly qualified teachers and paraprofessionals.
