Hello
to all of you educators. My name is Michael Middleton. I am a sixth
grade teacher at the Centralia Junior High, located down in
Centralia. I am a member of the Illinois Geographic Alliance. I had
the pleasure of traveling to Washington D.C. for this year's
Geography Action! Asia. I hope as you use this site you will find
lots of information to bring Asia alive for your students.
I created this site to convey as much of the information I was given
in D.C. to bring back for you to use. I hope you will find this site
easy to navigate through, and easy to obtain the information
provided.
In this site I have tried to include all
the things you need to plan and hold a Geography Action Event. I
have a basic Geo-Games Kit, to help with planning your activity. I
have a list of games played in Asia to try with your students. I
have listed some ideas to work with local media. Hopefully you can
get them to cover your event. I have a few lesson plans that deal
with Asia. I hope you can use them and of course send me any you
have used in the past.
I have some items that I have included as
WORD documents. That way you can use and change them anyway you need
to, for better use in your class. I have included an Invitation for
those coming to your event. I have an Event Evaluation document, for
you to look back at your event, and to send me a copy so I can add
it to my year report. I have a (basic) Press Release, again in a
WORD document to change and send to local media.
I have one document that is a very
important one to use. It is the Photo Release. I want you to send me
all the info on the event(s) you do this coming school year. I also
want any pictures- BUT- before I can send National Geographic the info
and pics on your wonderful event I MUST HAVE a photo release of
those people who appear in the pictures. If all you get are group
shots, then please get as many from those people who are front and
center in the picture. I know this can be a pain, but National
Geographic won't use any picture without them. Any picture
containing a single person, must have a release.
The general idea is for you to hold some
Geo-Games event at your school involving not only your school, but
also your community. Whatever event you can hold, I want to know
about it. Send me info and pictures. At the end of the school year I
will report back to National Geographic with all the wonderful
things the state of Illinois did to bring Asia to our students.
If you are in need of maps, I have many
that are for this year's Geo-Action Week, please e-mail me
at, mrgeocjhs@yahoo.com and
I will get them to you some how. Maps can also be obtained by
contacting the IGA, Illinois Geographic Alliance, at www.
